Job Title: International Compliance Manager

Description: The International Compliance Manager is a key contributor to the implementation of the long-range strategies and annual plan objectives for the International Foodservice Business. The role will lead the documentation and institutionalization of International best practices and engage with and update key stakeholders through the integration process. This person will prioritize efforts to assure compliance with laws and regulations and mitigate risk; supporting International Foodservice initiatives as we establish and optimize this business. 

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Research and Understand
    • Maintain up-to-date thorough knowledge of international trade laws and regulations applicable to activities of the various business units that govern international trade activities according to agencies such as USDA, FDA, APHIS
    • Works to ensure that the company's trade operations meet federal guidelines and adhere to export regulations
    • Keep current with changes in export laws and regulations
    • Translate knowledge into practical application of foreign regulation and what that means to Grande
  • Document and Institutionalize
    • Work with appropriate cross-functional departments to develop and implement policies and procedures that support and respond to governing international trade policies to ensure full compliance with all US and international export and business requirements
    • Create and implement internal processes to ensure a company-wide compliance with international shipping requirements, customs regulations, and trade laws
    • Develop and institutionalize trade compliance best practices for the International Foodservice business
  • Train and Educate
    • Lead projects and serve as the subject matter expert to support future international growth of the organization
    • Conduct or coordinate training and assessments across Grande departments and business units
    • This role will interact closely with cross-functional teams including but not limited to QA, R&D, SCM, Marketing, Sales, etc. to ensure proper shared understanding and implementation of export requirements
  • Monitor and Optimize
    • Identify and implement opportunities for enhancement or automation that support Grande export activities
    • Performing audits to ensure that cross-border shipping and business activities meet all relevant requirements
    • Identify opportunities for efficiencies between International Foodservice and International CIG businesses
    • Work closely with governmental agencies, such as USDA, FDA, DATCP, USDEC to develop relationships to aid in efficiently improving our import/export process

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Experience & Training
    • 6+ years of relevant experience in an import or export compliance role in the food industry, dairy industry preferred
    • Understanding of international trade terminology (incoterms, letters of credit, etc.)
    • Demonstrated understanding and working knowledge of U.S. import/export regulations as related to food exports
    • Familiarity with international transportation and logistics processes and best practices

  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, i.e., regulations, and procedure manuals
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively translate complex regulations and technical data into simplified language that cross-functional Associates can understand and act on
  • Must have strong written communication skills - able to successfully write and disseminate policies and procedures
  • Exceptional attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills at all levels of the organization
  • Able to work cross functionally and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Process-driven with ability to navigate and move project through conflict
  • Able to drive decisions through effective interpersonal skills, influencing without direct authority

Technology

  • Computer literate and proficient using Microsoft software suite, ERP, data entry, and data management system
