WCMA Offers Free Consulting on Dairy Export Logistics, Product Demos

Wisconsin dairy exporters can apply now for free consultative services through Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association (WCMA) to help them master the technicalities of international exporting, introduce their products to new markets, and grow their sales abroad. Details and a simple, one-page application are available now at WisCheeseMakers.org/Grants.

"Wisconsin’s dairy processors are primed for substantial international growth. This investment empowers WCMA to further extend our extensive resources, helping Wisconsin’s dairy manufacturers engage more consumers around the world," said John Umhoefer, WCMA Executive Director.

In 2023, WCMA’s dairy export consultation program served 12 Wisconsin dairy companies and cooperatives, helping to contribute over 550,000 pounds of cheese each month in contracted ongoing export business - bringing the total to more than six million pounds a year.

Applications for the 2024 round of the dairy export program will be accepted on a rolling basis until all spaces are filled. Applicants are not required to be members of WCMA. Successful applicants will be awarded consulting hours on a first-come, first-served basis.

This consulting time will be provided by experienced global dairy professional Jacqueline Cook of Cook Alpine Ltd. With 18 years of dedicated expertise in exporting dairy products, Cook brings a strong commitment to the dairy industry and a wealth of knowledge encompassing logistics, sourcing, sales, marketing, and participation in prominent food shows. Her experience ranges from navigating international regulations to optimizing supply chains and includes consultation in the retail, foodservice, and ingredients sectors.

Cook will offer customized coaching to help businesses navigate the technical aspects of exporting, such as improving their products, packaging, marketing, sales, or distribution for foreign markets; and learning how to comply with export standards. Businesses participating in this newest round of WCMA’s Export Expansion program will also be eligible to join product sampling and demo programs in targeted foreign markets, coordinated by Cook.

Funds for this program are provided by a grant from the Wisconsin Initiative for Agricultural Exports at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (WDATCP). Questions about the new round of grants may be directed to WCMA Grants & Business Programs Director Danica Nilsestuen at dnilsestuen@wischeesemakers.org or (608) 673-5547.
